Ameren Missouri Projects

Ameren Missouri serves 2.3 million electric and 900,000 natural gas customers in Missouri and Illinois. Its Shoreline Facilities database contains features within more than 320 square miles, including approximately 50,000 parcels with 42,000 shoreline improvements, such as boat docks, ramps and sea walls. Trailhead GIS is providing dedicated web services to Ameren Missouri for its Shoreline Management GIS Application (SMGIS)

The Shoreline Management Geographic Information System is a collection of web applications designed to meet Ameren Missouri's requirements for in-house information processing and external (public access) information dissemination. The SMGIS is comprised of the following:

Shoreline FacilitiesShoreline Facilities - The Shoreline Facilities GIS Site is a restricted access site used by Ameren Missouri staff and local, state, and federal agencies. Having the need to visualize the existing shoreline facilities during the permit application review process, Ameren Missouri turned to Trailhead GIS to develop the Shoreline Facilities site. The site displays the current layout of the all permitted shoreline facilities on project lands and provides users with query and reporting tools.

Shoreline Facilities PermittingShoreline Facilities Permitting - The Shoreline Management Permit Site is restricted to the Shoreline Management Office users and was developed to provide a comprehensive tool for the tracking of all permits, complaints, and violations. Developed with our partner, Adept Technologies, Trailhead GIS designed and developed the Permit site to track all user assigned workflow tasks, permit review requirements, and all documentation associated with the issuance and tracking of permits, complaints, and violations.

Adopt The Shoreline Program - Ameren Missouri's Adopt-the-Shoreline program enables interested groups and individuals to "adopt" portions of shoreline for litter control. Launched in September 1994, with nine local civic organizations adopting a total of 89 miles of shoreline, participation has grown to 94 groups and 602 miles of adopted shoreline - more than 50% of the lake's 1,150 miles of shoreline! With the need to track both the location of the adopted shoreline and amount of litter collected and removed from the Lake of the Ozarks, Trailhead GIS developed the Adopt the Shoreline Site. This tool provide Ameren UE Staff with the tools to track the organizations' adopted shoreline location, via the GIS map as well as the volunteers assigned to the location and tracks the amount of litter collected and removed.

Annual Fees Site - The Annual Fees Site is a restricted access site designed to assign, track and maintain the client information and calculated sizes for the facilities that fall under the Annual Fees program. Properties that have facilities that exceed 3,000 square feet of total water space are required to pay Use Fees on an annual basis. The Annual Fee Site auto generates the sum total square footage of all the facilities covering water space within the project lands on a per property basis. Sharing the Permit Site database, as new facilities are added or existing ones modified, and as properties change ownership, the system will continually update the identified annual fee parcel information.

Exhibit G IndexExhibit G Index - Trailhead GIS provided services to compile the Exhibit G map set for Ameren Missouri's latest FERC submittal. Using SMGIS data sets, Trailhead GIS created the Exhibit G map set to meet the current requirement for printed and digital filing. Additionally, Trailhead GIS provided services to convert the original property acquisition maps (from 1930) as a supplemental reference for the SMGIS. The latest Exhibit G maps and acquisition parcels are available online to staff through the SMGIS Exhibit G Site.

Foam Compliance Identification and Tracking - Beginning in 2009, Ameren Missouri imposed a requirement allowing only encapsulated foam as floatation of boat docks. In the effort to provide the tools to assist the field inspectors, Trailhead GIS created the Foam Compliance Identification and Tracking application. Using ESRI's Arcpad on ruggedized laptops and digital cameras, both equipped with GPS, Trailhead GIS created an application that allows the field crews to track their location anywhere on the lake, identify properties with boat docks having unapproved flotation, take digital pictures and record notes of the violations, and create form letters and mailings lists for the property owners with the violations. For ongoing tracking of compliance by the property owners, Trailhead GIS created the Foam Compliance link, a web application using the SMGIS data sets and the functionally giving staff the ability to review the field data and update the status of compliance.

Project Boundary Encroachment - The Project Boundary Encroachment Site is an internal SMO site designed and developed to identify the properties that have structures that encroach on project lands and properties that potentially could encroach on the project lands through further development.

Project Aerial MapProject Aerial Map - The SMGIS Aerial Map Site is a public access site allowing the general public to query, view, and print geographic based information from the Lake of the Ozarks. The site gives the users access to query by Lake Mile, Cove Name or Township Range and Section, and with standard navigation tools such as zoom in, zoom out, pan and printing, users can find property information around the lake.

Shoreline Management Plan IndexShoreline Management Plan Index - The SMGIS Shoreline Management Plan Index Site is a public access site allowing the general public to view, print and download the drawings prepared and filed with the Shoreline Management Plan.

Shoreline Facilities Field Verification 2002 - Trailhead GIS has developed an application to assist Ameren Missouri field teams in the capture of data collected during on-site field inspections at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Field Crews using a Personal Desktop Assistant (PDA, Hand Held) device are surveying and inspecting all shoreline facilities to identify and document their status and condition.  Trailhead GIS, using ESRI's ArcPad software, loaded property and facilities map data and designed and implemented a custom forms interface for the update and verification of the associated data.  In addition, Trailhead GIS created and delivered a custom map atlas of the inspection areas assigned to the field teams.  The maps atlases are comprised of over 350 public land survey sections. Updates to the map data are transferred from the PDA to the Trailhead GIS web server and available to Ameren Missouri via a custom web based GIS application.

Government GIS Projects

Badger Army Ammunition PlantBadger Army Ammunition Plant - Working with Grand Terre GIS, Inc, Frankfort KY, Trailhead GIS developed a web version of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant's Environment GIS application. Trailhead developed a custom application to allow site engineers and government users to access, query and report on both the demolition progress of the military installation's infrastructure and the quarterly field updates of over 200 groundwater monitoring wells.
